Lobbying call based on the UN working team report, prepared by:

FINALE RESULT:
UN commission reclassifies cannabis, no longer considered risky narcotic. The UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) took a number of decisions on Wednesday, leading to changes in the way cannabis is internationally regulated, including its reclassification out of the most dangerous category of drugs.
In reviewing a series of World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations on marijuana and its derivatives, the CND zeroed-in on the decision to remove cannabis from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs — where it was listed alongside deadly, addictive opioids, including heroin. The CND’s 53 Member States voted to removed cannabis – where it had been placed for 59 years – from the strictest control schedules, that even discouraged its use for medical purposes. With an historic vote of 27 in favour, 25 against, and one abstention, the CND has opened the door to recognizing the medicinal and therapeutic potential of the commonly-used but still largely illegal recreational drug.
WORLD HEMP CONGRESS STATEMENT:
THE GREAT GLOBAL CANNABIS VICTORY before the UNITED NATIONS! THANKS to all activists at the global level, NGOs, to UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs department, to World Health Organization (WHO), to UN and the National Ambassadors, EU Commissioners, to Responsible Institutions and Decision-makers, in particular to the Working Group, who has persistently led the efforts and the process before the UN, and last but not least, thanks to PRESS, WHC Team and to all, who have enabled and supported the amendment of such important professional regulations, and enable a historical shift and development in this area as well.
