Serbian WHC18 speaker Ms. Dr. Anamarija Koren, INSTITUTE OF FIELD AND VEGETABLE CROPS, Novi Sad representer will present exceptional new hemp varieties already registered in the EU.
Institute of Fields and Vegetable Crops employs 589 workers including 100 researches and possesses 760 hectares of farmland used for field trials and experiments. IFVCNS has large capacities related to field trials and morphological and biochemical evaluation; long tradition in extension service and advisory communication with farmers and other end-users; good contacts with SMEs, farmers and agricultural schools. Scientific research includes development of new plant cultivars and hybrids, and creation of growing technology and plant protection. Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops is performing economic activities on the market through offering its own varieties of field and vegetable crops and soil, seed and plants laboratory testing services.
As the sole research Institute in the East Europe and one of the few in the World, IFVCNS continued research work on hemp cultivation practices throughout the decades when hemp production was diminished worldwide.
Today, as result, IFVCNS is owner of two (grain hemp cv. Helena and fiber hemp cv. Marina) out of four registered hemp cultivars on the seed market in Serbia, and has developed hemp production practice that provides local producers proficiency to grow hemp without large investments in resources (maximized use of already available mechanization).
IFVCNS is currently engaged in the project ‘Renaissance of hemp in the light of agronomical and medical challenges’ funded by Provincial Secretariat for Science and Technological Development of Vojvodina, Serbia.
